Bible Version Fact Sheet

“The seed is the word of God… THEN COMETH THE DEVIL, and taketh away the WORD…” Luke 8:11

“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever”    Psalm l2:6,7

We have the preserved word of God. What good would inspiration be without preservation? Because we no longer have the original manuscripts and there are so many Bible versions, we must discern where the preserved word of God is and where it is not.

The King James Version of 1611 is the last translation from manuscripts traceable to the early church (Antiochian or Western Manuscripts)

THIS IS THE HEART OF THIS DEBATE!

Modern versions are from Alexandrian or Eastern manuscripts made public in 1800’s. Codices Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are these 4th century manuscripts known as the “ancient authorities” or older manuscripts. They disagree with each other in over 3,000 places in the gospels alone.

Older because set aside and unused by majority of people; kept in Catholic Monastery and Library

Manuscripts used for KJV newer because used and copied more often (old, worn out manuscript copies were buried as a symbol of honor)

KJV translators were men of faith, godly character and scholarship who had knowledge of variant manuscript readings used today, but viewed them as unreliable.

Their open collaboration vs. secrecy of Westcott & Hort (men who indict themselves in their own journals as unsound in the faith and defect in character)

Westcott & Hort Greek NT is used by today’s translators

KJV Textus Receptus Greek NT gathered by Dutch Scholar Erasmus:

“Received Text” – received by the common people

Also called Byzantine or Majority Text -over 90% of existing Greek manuscripts agree with KJV and in some areas 99% agree

Formal Equivalency (word for word translation) vs. Dynamic Equivalency (thought for thought translation).- exact wording vs. supposed meaning

True translation vs. paraphrasing (putting into words thoughts one thinks writer is trying to convey i.e. NIV “translators” did paraphrase 6653 passages – entire Living Bible is a paraphrase)

How can we know what God meant if we don’t know exactly what God said?

God gave us the words to teach us the doctrines

William Tyndale said, “l call God to record… that I never altered one syllable of God’s Word”.

Verbal (word for word) inspiration is not subject to experience or reason, but revelation – “All scripture is given by inspiration of God. . . ” II Timothy 3:16

“Every word of God is pure”(Proverbs 30:5)

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words shall not pass away”. (Matthew 24:35)

Do we have the words of Jesus or not?

NIV has 64,098 less words than KJV (total – 774,746) and omits 15 whole verses (i.e. Acts 8: 37 not in NIV at all)

There are over 2,500 documented new version word and verse changes which dismantle essential doctrines of Christianity.

Research by Grammitik and Word for Windows proves KJV vocabulary easier than so-called easier-to-read new versions (from The Language of the King James Bible)

KJV written on 5th grade reading level

NASB & NKJV – 6th grade level

NIV – 8th grade level

KJV averages less syllables and letters per word and less words per sentence. It has a smaller percentage of long words and a greater percentage of short words than NKJV, NIV, NASB and NRSV.

According to readability statistics generated by Pro-Scribe, the KJV is easier to read than USA Today, People Magazine and most children’s books.

Many people are given the impression by Preachers and Teachers that unless they know Hebrew and Greek they cannot understand the word of God. Bible “Scholars” then tell them what should be in the Bible and what should not; creating a Nicolaitane mindset (Clergy superior to Laity – Revelation 2:6) and promoting confusion and doubt (cf. I John 2:27).

No royalty copyright on KJV – anyone can print and distribute

In order for other version publishers to secure copyrights and thus earn money on sales of their “newer, easier-to-read translations” the Derivative Copyright Law states there must be “substantial” changes between the newest copyrighted versions and all others on the market.

Publishers can’t be looking for the best word to use in certain passages. To get a copyright they must change, rearrange, add, delete, etc.

Americans spend $400 million a year on Bible versions

The four “Revisions” of KJV were mere corrections of spellings, punctuations, copier omissions and the like totaling about 400. There have been NO TEXTUAL REVISIONS (The NKJV is not a revision of the KJV. It has almost 60,000 word and textual changes and is copyrighted).

“The word of God is not bound” (II Timothy 2:9) – ‘free course” (II Thes. 3: 1)

Publishers with copyrighted versions will not let just anyone print “their” Bible and cut into their donor base (i.e. a printing ministry was limited by a major Bible Publisher to printing 10,000 Spanish NT for free distribution in Mexico though they had printing capabilities for thousands more. They also charged this faith ministry royalties per copy.)

KJV has enjoyed God’s blessing, been used the most and undergone the strongest attack (ask KJV critics just why they hate it the most, and do not denounce the many obvious perversions available today. Again, if the word of God is preserved, ask them to tell you where it is and where it is not)

Gordon Fee, College Professor and defender of modern versions said in Christianity Today. “The contemporary translations as a group have one thing in common: they tend to agree against the KJV in omitting hundreds of words, phrases and verses”.

“The seed is the word of God… THEN COMETH THE DEVIL, and taketh away the WORD…” Luke 8:11, 12
