Science or Knowledge in 1 Timothy 6:20?

King James Bible 1 Timothy 6:20
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

New King James Version 1 Timothy 6:20
O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge

They say the NKJV is more accurate because the Greek word “gnosis”can ONLY be translated as “Knowledge”. And it is so translated in 28 of the 29 times is appears in the KJB. BUT not here. Why?

1) The translation choice was known to the KJB translators because it appeared in the Roman Catholic Rheims N.T. published 1582 and they rejected it.

2) Some claim that “Science” as a discipline was not used as it is today back in 1611. YET…
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the English word “science” also means: “knowledge acquired by study; acquaintance with or mastery of any department of learning.” This reference goes back to the 13th century.

This is seen in the KJB cross-reference:
“Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had the ability in them to stand in the king’s palace…” Daniel 1:4

Real “Science” is systematized “knowledge” derived from observation, study, experimentation and demonstration. 1 Timothy 6:20 in the KJB is a specific warning as to whats been going on for years.

And it doesn’t take a rocket knowledgist to figure it out!
