“Hey, what do you mean, by putting the blame on me?” -Satan
Well, let’s consider some of the biblical evidence and prayfully everyone will see from where the idea of suicide originates.
1) Eve
Genesis 3 is the first evidence of suicide, Satan lied to Eve by saying “ye shall not surely die”, when he knew better. Satan has and will always tell people that there will be no consequences to their actions. Eve’s wrong choice resulted in the fall of man, and thus, sin entered the world. This is the same type of lie that the devil tells a lot people just before they attempt to kill themselves.
2) King Saul
In 1 Samuel chapter 28-31, Saul had a history of having been troubled by evil spirits, this happened every time the Spirit of the Lord had departed from him (1 Samuel 16:14, 18:10, & 19:9). In chapter 28, Saul when in trouble seeks God, and God would not hear him, because God will not hear a sinner’s prayer, John 9:31 “Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.” Saul was far from being in God’s will, and when God wouldn’t answer him he went to a witch, 1 Samuel 28:6-7. Later, when Saul lost his army and his sons, he could not take it any longer, he killed himself, 1 Samuel 31:4. Because of his choice he is spending his eternity in hell.
3) Job
Job 1-2:10, God had allowed Satan to test Job’s faith by taking everything that he had, and even by smiting him with painful boils from head to toe. Job’s wife, being used of the devil, told Job; Job 2:9-10 “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die. But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? Shall we receive god at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.” Even through all that Job never sinned, and not only did he not wish to take his life, but he still loved and worshipped God.
4) Jesus
In Matthew 4:1-11 the Lord was tempted of the devil to jump to His death. “Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
5) Judas
One of the 12 disciples, he followed the Lord, but out of covetousness he fell away from the Lord, (Judas by transgression fell, Acts 1:25) then Satan entered his heart (Luke 22:30). He betrayed the Lord Jesus Christ, and under the weight of sin and guilt hanged himself. He could have just as easily turned that around, instead he is spending his eternity in hell.
6) The man called Legion
In Mark 5:1-20, a man was possessed with a legion (almost 7,000) of devils, he was always walking around in the graveyard crying and cutting himself with sharp stones, most likely suicide attempts, but when he saw Jesus, he ran, fell at His feet and worshipped Him. Then Jesus cast the devils into pigs that were nearby, and the devils caused them to run into the water and drown themselves. Satan accomplished in those pigs, what he had been attempting in that man.
7) A young boy
In Mark 9:17-25, a boy was possessed with a dumb spirit, from his childhood, it tried to kill him many times. In Mark 9:22 the prayer of this child’s father is recorded for us “And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.” What a heart-breaking situation to find himself in, his child was suicidal, and he realized how unprepared and unequipped he was.
But he made the greatest decision by bringing that boy to the Lord, and the Lord cast that spirit out!
Some may ask:
Will a person go to Hell for committing suicide? Yes, after death a person cannot receive forgiveness. 1 John 3:15 “…ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.”
How can I help someone suffering through suicidal thoughts?
First, pray! Get as many Christians as you can praying for the individual (this can be anonymous, names aren’t crucial).
Secondly, be ready to deal with any issues they are facing with Biblical truths.
It is our prayer that everyone will look at the troubles they face in this life through the lens of eternity and realize “… the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18. And that suicide is satanic in everyway and not to be considered, because we know “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:” John 10:10
Also, we pray that everyone would decide today about their eternal future.
1) We must recognize that we are sinners. The Bible says, “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God….There is none righteous, no, not one….There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not….If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us….If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us” (Romans 3:23,10; Ecclesiastes 7:20; 1 John 1:8,10).
2) We must repent of our sins. The Bible says that God “commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). Jesus said, “Except you repent, you shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). It’s not so difficult to repent as we think of what our sins have cost God. It was for our sins that God came to earth in the Person of Jesus to suffer, bleed and die—that we might be forgiven. “Here-by perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us” (1 John 3:16). Then Jesus rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death.
3) We must receive Christ into our hearts and lives as our Savior. We read in the first chapter of John, speaking of the Lord Jesus, “He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:10-12). The moment we open our hearts to the Lord Jesus and place our complete trust in Him—and Him alone—as our Savior, God promises to forgive our sins, save our soul, and reserve for us a home in heaven. Then, on the authority of the Word of God, we can know where we’ll spend eternity. God says, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13). And Jesus promises, “He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).
