Contradictions within LDS Scriptures and the Bible

LDS, One God

Book of Mormon; Alma 11:27-39, 44, And Amulek said: Yea, there is a true and living God. 28 Now Zeezrom said: Is there more than one God? 29 And he answered, No.

(also see 2 Nephi 31:21, Mormon 7:7,3 Nephi 11:27)

LDS, Plural Gods

Doctrine and Covenants, D&C 121:32, According to that which was ordained in the midst of the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world was, that should be reserved unto the finishing and the end thereof, when every man shall enter into his eternal presence and into his immortal rest.  (also D&C 132:18-20, 37)

Bible:

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. James 2:19

Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. Isaiah 43:10

LDS, God Has a Body

Doctrine and Covenants, D&C 130:22, The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.

LDS, God is a Spirit

Book of Mormon, Alma 18:26-28, And then Ammon said: Believest thou that there is a Great Spirit?  27 And  he  said, Yea. 28  And  Ammon  said: This is God. And Ammon said unto him again: Believest thou that this Great Spirit, who is God, created all things which are in heaven and in the earth?

Alma 22:8-11, And now when Aaron heard this, his heart began to rejoice, and he said: Behold, assuredly as thou livest, O king, there is a God. 9 And the king said: Is God that Great Spirit that brought our fathers out of the land of Jerusalem? 10 And Aaron said unto him: Yea, he is that Great Spirit, and he created all things both in heaven and in earth. Believest thou this? 11 And he said: Yea, I believe that the Great Spirit created all things, and I desire that ye should tell me concerning all these things, and I will believe thy words.

Bible:

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24

Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.  Luke 24:39

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. John 1:18

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?    Numbers 23:19

LDS, God Dwells in Heart

Book of Mormon, Alma 34:36, And this I know, because the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell; yea, and he has also said that the righteous shall sit down in his kingdom, to go no more out; but their garments should be made white through the blood of the Lamb.

LDS, God Does Not Dwell in Heart

Doctrine and Covenants, D&C 130:3, The appearing of the Father and the Son, in that verse, is a personal appearance; and the idea that the Father and the Son dwell in a man’s heart is an old sectarian notion, and is false.

Bible:

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in God, and God in him.  1 John 4:12-16

(Note: I John 4:12-16, is translated word for word just as the King James Version states it, for the exception of the inserted quote by Joseph Smith in v.12, ‘except them who believe’, (which cannot be rendered by the original manuscripts anyway), however it does say that even  Joseph Smith believed that God dwells in the hearts of men.)

LDS, God Cannot Lie

Book of Mormon, Ether 3:12, And he answered: Yea, Lord, I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou art a God of truth, and canst not lie.

2 Nephi 9:34, Woe unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell.

LDS, God Commands Lying

Pearl of Great Price, Book of Abraham 2:22-25, And it came to pass when I was come near to enter into Egypt, the Lord said unto me: Behold, Sarai, thy wife, is a very fair woman to look upon; 23 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see her, they will say- She is his wife; and they will kill you, but they will save her alive; therefore see that ye do on this wise: 24 Let her say unto the Egyptians, she is thy sister, and thy soul shall live. 25 And it came to pass that I, Abraham, told Sarai, my wife, all that the Lord had said unto me-Therefore say unto them, I pray thee, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for thy sake, and my soul shall live because of thee.

Bible:

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second  death.                   Rev. 21:8  ( also see verse 27)

Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.  Jeremiah 23:32

LDS, God’s Word Unchangeable

Book of Mormon, Alma 41:8, Now, the decrees of God are unalterable; therefore, the way is prepared that whosoever will may walk therein and be saved.

LDS, God’s Word Can Change

Doctrine and Covenants, D&C 56:4-5, Wherefore I, the Lord, command and revoke, as it seemeth me good; and all this to be answered upon the heads of the rebellious, saith the Lord. 5 Wherefore, I revoke the commandment which was given unto my servants Thomas B. Marsh and Ezra Thayre, and give a new commandment unto my servant Thomas, that he shall take up his journey speedily to the land of Missouri, and my servant Selah J. Griffin shall also go with him.

Bible:

For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Psalm 119:89

For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed

Malachi 3:6

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. Deut. 4:2

LDS, Murder Can Be Forgiven

Book of Mormon, 3 Nephi 30:2, Turn, all ye Gentiles, from your wicked ways; and repent of your evil doings, of your lyings and deceivings, and of your whoredoms, and of your secret abominations, and your idolatries, and of your murders, and your priestcrafts, and your envyings, and your strifes, and from all your wickedness and abominations, and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, that ye may receive a remission of your sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, that ye may be numbered with my people who are of the house of Israel.

LDS, No Forgiveness For Murder

Doctrine and Covenants, D&C 42:18, And now, behold, I speak unto the church. Thou shalt not kill; and he that kills shall not have forgiveness in this world, nor in the world to come.

Bible:

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Matthew 12:31-32

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.  1 John 2:1-2
