Hebrews 4:8 Genuine or Counterfeit? “JESUS” vs. “JOSHUA” How Does Your Bible Read? “HE” vs. “GOD” How Does Your Bible Read? When Did “JESUS” change His Name to JOSHUA? Doctrinal Issue or Not? Heb 4:8 (KJB) For if JESUS had given them rest, then would HE not afterward have spoken of another day. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Hebrews 4:8 KJB JESUS is clearly identified and JESUS is the person that spoke in the last half of the verse. NO CONFUSION! All of the Greek Texts below read ( Ἰησοῦς = JESUS ) & ( ἂν = “then would HE”) The argument is strictly translational and not textual. The Greek word ( θεός = God ) does NOT appear in any of the Greek texts below. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the modern versions the name is changed from JESUS to JOSHUA. Who spoke is up for grabs. Most modern versions say GOD spoke. Is JOSHUA and GOD the same being? Some name JOSHUA and say JOSHUA spoke 2005 Mace Bible names JOSHUA and says DAVID spoke. In v.1 we find it is about JESUS and US entering into HIS REST. Whose REST? JESUS’ REST! In v.2 we find the GOSPEL being preached to US. Whose GOSPEL? GOSPEL OF JESUS! In v.3 In whom must we believe to enter into this REST? JESUS! Yes there is a mention of David in v.7 but, In v.9 there is a REST that REMAINETH, in whom is our REST? JESUS! NOT David & NOT Joshua. In v.12 the WORD OF GOD is JESUS! In v.14 we have a HIGH PRIEST = JESUS THE SON OF GOD! In v.16 in whom are we to seek MERCY & GRACE from? JESUS! Q. So we must ask ourselves, is v.8 an Old Testament prophetical statement of Joshua’s or is it a New Testament prophecy about ANOTHER DAY SPOKEN BY JESUS CHRIST himself? Heb 4:1 (KJB) LET US therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into HIS REST, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto US WAS THE GOSPEL PREACHED, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For WE WHICH HAVE BELIEVED DO ENTER INTO REST, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if JESUS HAD GIVEN THEM REST, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 THERE REMAINETH THEREFORE A REST TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 FOR THE WORD OF GOD IS QUICK, AND POWERFUL, AND SHARPER THAN ANY TWOEDGED SWORD, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 14 SEEING THEN THAT WE HAVE A GREAT HIGH PRIEST, THAT IS PASSED INTO THE HEAVENS, JESUS THE SON OF GOD, LET US HOLD FAST OUR PROFESSION. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 LET US THEREFORE COME BOLDLY UNTO THE THRONE OF GRACE, THAT WE MAY OBTAIN MERCY, and find grace to help in time of need. 2Th 1:7 (KJB) And to you who are troubled REST WITH US, WHEN THE LORD JESUS SHALL BE REVEALED from heaven with his mighty angels, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Patristic Evidentiary Support for the Genuineness of the above Passage THE EARLY CHURCH FATHERS 38 Vol. Set WordSearch Add-On Early Church Fathers – Nicene & Post-Nicene Fathers – First Series – Volume 14 – Saint Chrysostom: Homilies on the Gospel of St. John, Hebrews – The Homilies of St. John Chrysostom on the Gospel of St. John. – Homily 81 – John 17:6 “That they may have My joy fulfilled”[18] “ to Thee, and these things I speak in the world, that they might have My joy fulfilled in themselves. ” N.T. ( John 17 ver 13 ); that is, “may not be confounded, as being imperfect.” And by these words He showed that HE HAD SPOKEN ALL THESE THINGS SO, TO GIVE THEM REST and joy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greek Texts Evidentiary Support for the Genuineness of the above Passage Nestle GNT 1904 εἰ γὰρ αὐτοὺς Ἰησοῦς κατέπαυσεν, οὐκ ἂν περὶ ἄλλης ἐλάλει μετὰ ταῦτα ἡμέρας.
