  • How many gods are there?

Bible:

 “… O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.” (2 Sam. 7:22)

“… that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.” (Isaiah 43:10-11) (also see: Deut. 4:35, Isaiah 44:6, Mark 12:32, 1 Corinthians 8:4)

Book of Mormon:

Now Zeezrom said: Is there more than one God? And he answered, No. (Alma 11:28-29)

“…and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God…” (Alma 11:44)

Doctrine and Covenants:

“According to that which was ordained in the midst of the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world…”. (Section 121:32)

“… because the angels and the gods are appointed there, by whom they cannot pass; they cannot, therefore, inherit my glory… and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, … Then shall they be gods, because they have no end…Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.” (Section 132:18-20)

“…, and are not angels but are gods. (Section 132:37)

 

 

  • Is God a spirit?

Bible:

“God is a Spirit…”  (John 4:24)

 

Book of Mormon:

“… Believest thou that there is a Great Spirit? And he said, Yea… This is God… Believest thou that this Great Spirit, who is God…” (Alma 18:26-28)

“… Is God that Great Spirit …Yea, he is that Great Spirit, and he created all things …Yea, I believe that the Great Spirit created all things…”  (Alma 22:8-11)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

“The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s…” (Section 130:22)

 

  • Does God dwell in the heart?

Bible:

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (John 14:23) (also see: I Jn.4:15, Ez.36:27, I Cor.3:16, I Jn.2:14, Rom.8:9)

 

Book of Mormon:

“… the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell…” (Alma 34:36)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

John 14:23–The appearing of the Father and the Son, in that verse, is a personal appearance; and the idea that the Father and the Son dwell in a man’s heart is an old sectarian notion, and is false. (Section 130:3)

 

  • Can God lie?

Bible:

“God is not a man, that he should lie…” (Numbers 23:19)

“… which God, that cannot lie…”  (Titus 1:2)

 

Book of Mormon:

“… Yea, Lord, I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou art a God of truth, and canst not lie.” (Ether 3:12)

“Wo unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell. ” (2 Nephi 9:34)

 

Pearl of Great Price:

“… the Lord said unto me: “Behold, Sarai, thy wife, is a very fair woman to look upon; Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see her, they will say–She is his wife; and they will kill you, but they will save her alive; therefore see that ye do on this wise: Let her say unto the Egyptians, she is thy sister, and thy soul shall live.”” (Abraham 2:22-25)

 

  • Is God’s word unchangeable?

Bible:

“But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.” (Psalms 102:27)

“For I am the LORD, I change not” (Malachi 3:6)

“The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.” (Psalms 119:144) (also see: Hebrews 1:12, Psalms 119:142)

 

Book of Mormon:

Now, the decrees of God are unalterable; therefore, the way is prepared that whosoever will may walk therein and be saved. (Alma 41:8)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

“Wherefore I, the Lord, command and revoke, as it seemeth me good…” (Section 56:4-5)

 

  • Does death seal man’s fate?

Bible:

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)

 

Book of Mormon:

“… Therefore if that man repenteth not, and remaineth and dieth an enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt, which doth cause him to shrink from the presence of the Lord, and doth fill his breast with guilt, and pain, and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever. And now I say unto you, that mercy hath no claim on that man; therefore his final doom is to endure a never-ending torment. (Mosiah 2:36-39)

“…, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you…the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.” (Alma 34:32-35)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

These are they who are cast down to hell and suffer the wrath of Almighty God, until the fulness of times, when Christ shall have subdued all enemies under his feet…These all shall bow the knee, and every tongue shall confess to him who sits upon the throne … they shall be judged according to their works, and every man shall receive according to his own works, his own dominion, in the mansions which are prepared; And they shall be servants of the Most High; but where God and Christ dwell they cannot come…” (Section 76:106-112)

 

  • Can murder be forgiven?

Bible:

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. (Matthew 12:31)

    For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. (James 2:10)

 

Book of Mormon:

Turn, all ye Gentiles, from your wicked ways; and repent of your evil doings, of your lyings and deceivings, and of your whoredoms, and of your secret abominations, and your idolatries, and of your murders, and your priestcrafts, and your envyings, and your strifes, and from all your wickedness and abominations, and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, that ye may receive a remission of your sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, that ye may be numbered with my people who are of the house of Israel. (3 Nephi 30:2)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

And now, behold, I speak unto the church. Thou shalt not kill; and he that kills shall not have forgiveness in this world, nor in the world to come. (Section 42:18)

 

  • Is there heaven and hell?

Bible:

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)

And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. (Matthew 18:9)

And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (Matthew 25:46)

Book of Mormon:

And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none–and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance. Yea, they are grasped with death, and hell; and death, and hell, and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith must stand before the throne of God, and be judged according to their works, from whence they must go into the place prepared for them, even a lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment. (2 Nephi 28:22-23)

And there is a place prepared, yea, even that awful hell of which I have spoken, and the devil is the preparator of it; wherefore the final state of the souls of men is to dwell in the kingdom of God, or to be cast out because of that justice of which I have spoken. (1 Nephi 15:35)

If they be good, to the resurrection of endless life and happiness; and if they be evil, to the resurrection of endless damnation, being delivered up to the devil, who hath subjected them, which is damnation– (also see: Mosiah 16:11, Mosiah 27:31, Alma 41:4-8, Alma 42:16)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

Who glorifies the Father, and saves all the works of his hands, except those sons of perdition who deny the Son after the Father has revealed him. (Section 76:43)

 

  • Does God condone polygamy?

Bible:

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; (1 Timothy 3:2)

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. (1 Timothy 3:12)

 

Book of Mormon:

And now it came to pass that the people of Nephi, under the reign of the second king, began to grow hard in their hearts, and indulge themselves somewhat in wicked practices, such as like unto David of old desiring many wives and concubines, and also Solomon, his son. (Jacob 1:15)

Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord. (Jacob 2:24)

Doctrine and Covenants:

Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines– (Section 132:1)

Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; … David also received many wives and concubines, and also Solomon and Moses my servants, as also many others of my servants, from the beginning of creation until this time; and in nothing did they sin …in none of these things did he sin against…saith the Lord.   • Should ministers be paid?

Bible:

For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. (Romans 13:6-7)

 

Book of Mormon:

But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor for money they shall perish. (2 Nephi 26:31)

Yea, and all their priests and teachers should labor with their own hands for their support, in all cases save it were in sickness, or in much want; and doing these things, they did abound in the grace of God. (Mosiah 27:5)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

And the elders or high priests who are appointed to assist the bishop as counselors in all things, are to have their families supported out of the property which is consecrated to the bishop, for the good of the poor, and for other purposes, as before mentioned; Or they are to receive a just remuneration for all their services, either a stewardship or otherwise, as may be thought best or decided by the counselors and bishop. And the bishop, also, shall receive his support, or a just remuneration for all his services in the church. (Section 42:71-73) (also see: Section 43:12-13)

 

  • Can you be saved by money?

Bible:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

 

Book of Mormon:

Yea, it shall come in a day when there shall be churches built up that shall say: Come unto me, and for your money you shall be forgiven of your sins. (Mormon 8:32)

 

Doctrine and Covenants:

Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming. (Section 64:23)
